A wound-healing disorder associated with acute or chronic wounds is often caused by multiple factors that need to be considered in a holistic approach during the treatment phase. Patients with delayed wound healing have vastly compromised quality of life. The most important precondition for wound healing is thorough and tissue-preserving cleaning. Gentle removal of infected, damaged or necrotic tissue by means of micro-water-jet technology has shown excellent healing results.
The debritom+ is flexible, handy and economic; it cleans acute and chronic wounds precisely and in a tissuepreserving manner. A high-pressure micro water jet removes slough such as fibrin, necrosis or biofilm, foreign bodies from acute wounds and is ideally suited for efficient irrigation of contaminated wounds.
A safer, simpler procedure
The micro-water-jet technology is a tissue-preserving and efficient alternative to conventional surgical procedures, such as those performed with a scalpel or a surgical shaver. debritom+ is used for in-patient and out-patient treatment, and can be carried out without general anaesthesia – no or local anaesthesia is sufficient.
Prescribed by a physician, a wound care specialist can perform the debridement with this sophisticated and minimally invasive technique without any assistance. Instead of just performing a dressing change, the wound can be debrided at the same time. The pressure intensity setting on the device, the distance, and angle between the wound and the jet, as well as the speed of the wiping motions determine how much of the wound surface is debrided.
The debritom+ has been listed as a top 10 innovation for 2019 by the journal Podiatry Today for its "tissue-preserving, precision debridement device". This annual event highlights new and emerging innovations that advance podiatric surgery and offer promising modalities in lower-extremity wound care.
This follows on from the recent research article published in Wound Medicine, where a study on 90 patients showed that debritom+ reduced the duration of wound healing by 30%.
Beat Moser, CEO of Medaxis, said following the announcement, "Together with the publication of the study, being named one of the top 10 innovations validates our design philosophy for debritom+ – to build a precision device that improves wound healing, is more comfortable for the patient and reduces the time taken by the physician." The benefits of the debritom+ include:
- effective time-saving 10-minute treatment session
- thorough fibrin, biofilm and necrotic tissue removal
- reduced formation of scar tissue
- no general anaesthesia required
- transforms chronic wounds into acute wounds.
Dr Stephanie Wu, professor of podiatric surgery and applied biomechanics, and director of the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research at the Dr William M Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, says, "The pressure imparted on the wound is only sufficient to remove the necrotic tissue and fibrin with the granulating tissue being unharmed. debritom+ is more precise and can be carried out with less tissue damage than other mechanical methods. The sensate patients who have tried the device reported no to minimal pain and prefer debritom+ over traditional sharp debridement methods."
