Medical technology firm Skanray has selected Tata Elxsi, part of India-based Tata Group, as a strategic partner to advance surgical imaging and healthcare innovation.

Tata Elxsi is a global design and technology services company. The firm serves companies in the healthcare, automotive, broadcast, and communications consumer electronics sectors.

Under the partnership, Mysore-based Skanray and Tata Elxsi will develop advanced surgical imaging core technology and software platforms.

The collaboration is expected to transform diagnosis and treatment using advanced technology modules to enhance predictability, accuracy, and consistency.

It will combine Skanray’s expertise in medical devices, core component technology, and systems with Tata Elxsi’s domain experience in medical imaging, software platform development, cloud capabilities, artificial intelligence (AI), and analytics.

The deal is also part of Skanray’s long-term strategy aimed at expanding its portfolio to include new device families and modalities.

The latest initiative will focus on developing a suite of reusable modules and components for medical devices, along with an advanced analytics cloud platform.

Tata Elxsi will spearhead a software platform approach for diagnostics that supports all imaging, critical care, and surgical systems within the Skanray portfolio.

The approach will ensure interoperability, compatibility, and multi-modal functionality, integrating the latest advancements in AI and GenAI technologies.

The collaboration aims to deliver advanced, modular, and cost-effective diagnostic systems.

Tata Elxsi healthcare business unit head Pankaj Wani said: “The diagnostic imaging landscape is being transformed by software and digital technologies such as cloud and AI. We are delighted to be supporting Skanray in realising their long-term strategy and vision for healthcare.”

Skanray has operations across seven countries. It boasts a diverse portfolio, including 55 CE-marked and 34 US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved products in diagnostic imaging, critical care, cardiology, dental, and surgical fields.

Skanray Technologies corporate communications vice president Priyanka Chatterjee said: “Our collaborative efforts will result in solutions that are not only technologically advanced, but are also operator-friendly and cost-effective, helping healthcare providers deliver significantly improved health outcomes for patients.”

In March, Tata Elxsi and Dräger signed a collaboration to advance critical care innovation in India.

As part of this collaboration, Dräger is expanding its research and development presence by establishing a new Offshore Development Center (ODC) at Tata Elxsi’s facility in Pune.
