Sectra, a Swedish medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company, has announced that it will provide AZ Sint-Lucas Gent in Belgium with its advanced enterprise imaging solution.

The imaging solution enables radiologists to perform the entire diagnostic process in one application.

Sectra said the application has all the necessary tools that are easily accessible, boosting productivity and speeding up diagnostics. It will also lower the lead times for patients and improve overall care quality.

Ghent-based AZ Sint-Lucas Gent Hospital offers various medical specialities to local and regional patients. The hospital conducts around 300,000 exams annually.

AZ Sint-Lucas Gent medical imaging department head Nele De Ruyter said: “By choosing Sectra, we’re investing in a solution that will enhance our radiologists’ efficiency. The built-in reporting eliminates the need to switch between multiple applications.

“With Sectra’s high availability, we ensure our radiologists can perform imaging exams anytime and anywhere. This streamlined workflow will allow us to reduce turnaround times and increase the high-quality care for our patients.”

Sectra signed a 10-year contract with AZ Sint-Lucas Gent during Q2 of its 2024/2025 fiscal year.

The hospital will use Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution for radiology, breast imaging, and Sectra’s vendor-neutral archive (VNA) modules.

Sectra Benelux managing director Bart Thielen said: “Radiologists today are under more pressure than ever. The demand for imaging is growing rapidly, and radiologists must manage heavy workloads while maintaining high diagnostic accuracy and have a reasonable work-life balance.

“AZ Sint-Lucas Gent’s commitment in enhancing radiology workflows reflects their mission to deliver the best possible patient care. We are looking forward to supporting them in this mission.”

Sectra’s enterprise imaging solution offers a unified strategy for all imaging needs, reducing operational costs.

The scalable, modular solution, centred around a VNA, enables healthcare providers to expand across specialities and scale from one enterprise to another.

In July this year, Sectra announced that two hospitals in Belgium are now live with its public cloud service for medical imaging based on Microsoft Azure.

As the first in the Benelux countries to use Sectra One Cloud, these hospitals are already getting enhanced resource sharing between sites and more streamlined workflows.

In September this year, the medical imaging firm agreed to offer its enterprise imaging solution across all public hospitals in Québec, Canada.
