Resivant Medical has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its Cutiva Topical Skin Adhesive and Cutiva PLUS Skin Closure System.
Both tissue adhesive products are based on the Cutiva adhesive platform, which was discovered at the School of Polymer Sciences at the University of Akron.
The technology was further developed and licensed by Resivant Medical.
Cutiva adhesive boasts a formulation that combines the bonding of super glue with the benefits of crosslinked silicone rubber, resulting in a skin adhesive that offers superior wound closure, enhanced flexibility, durability, and improved patient safety and comfort.
All Cutiva products are applied using a new, easy-to-use single-handed applicator that creates a protective microbial barrier over the incision.
The high-viscosity, no-run liquid adhesive stays in place, preventing unwanted spreading and ensuring precise application, Resivant Medical said.
According to the company, its first two products are designed to advance the medical tissue adhesive and wound closure technology sector.
The Cutiva PLUS system, which includes both surgical mesh and the novel adhesive, facilitates easy removal without harming the surrounding skin, making it suitable for a range of surgical specialities.
The mesh is designed to offer additional strength in place of sutures. It is positioned on the skin, and the adhesive is then applied over the mesh.
This creates a reinforced barrier that is strong, flexible, durable, and soft, providing enhanced protection for the surgical site during the healing process.
Resivant Medical CEO Darren Obrigkeit said: “The Cutiva platform signifies a fundamental breakthrough in cyanoacrylate adhesive technology for surgical incision and traumatic laceration closure.
“Cutiva adhesive’s unique chemistry maintains a clean incision site without the need for additional dressings and is formulated to significantly reduce the level of exposure to skin irritants.”
Resivant Medical has introduced new adhesive technology that improves usability and performance for both patients and healthcare professionals.
The firm’s skin closure adhesive products are engineered for topical application on wounds and surgical incisions, offering enhanced effectiveness and ease of use.
