The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) and Cognome have partnered to transform patient care through advanced AI and machine learning (ML) solutions.
The collaboration will utilise Cognome’s ethical AI tools, developed at two top academic healthcare systems, alongside NJII’s professional services.
It will unite healthcare delivery stakeholders, including researchers, technology leaders, AI/ML practitioners, and operational and quality teams.
Healthcare Innovation Solutions (HCIS), a subsidiary of NJII focused on quality and performance improvement, will play a key role in bringing these AI innovations to the market.
Also, NJII will provide data science expertise and custom model development services to meet the increasing demand for advanced analytics and purpose-built AI solutions.
NJII COO and HCIS CEO Jennifer D’Angelo said: “We are thrilled to partner with Cognome to advance AI and Machine Learning in healthcare.
“By aligning stakeholder initiatives, we can ensure all hospitals and providers benefit from AI-driven innovation, enhancing research, patient care, safety and operations.”
Cognome CEO James Green said: “Partnering with NJII combines our 15 years of building proven AI and ML capabilities with their deep knowledge and collaboration throughout NJ’s healthcare ecosystem. Size and diversity in patient data are the ‘fuel’ for intelligent, accurate, and responsible AI models.”
NJII is an entity of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), focused on advancing healthcare technology and innovation across New Jersey and beyond.
Established through a joint venture between Montefiore Health System and the University of Texas at Houston, Cognome provides advanced AI and ML models.
It also offers ExplainerAI, an AI governance platform specifically designed for healthcare.
The ExplainerAI platform, based on the NIH AI Governance framework, enhances trustworthiness and transparency while minimising bias through responsible AI models.
It aligns with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, addressing privacy, auditability, cybersecurity, and compliance for AI models, including those from third parties.
NJII AI and Machine Learning VP Tom Villani said: “This partnership aligns with our commitment to accelerate innovation in key sectors such as healthcare.
“All of our AI models integrate seamlessly with EHRs, delivering real-time insights to physicians. The Sepsis reduction model has demonstrated the lowest flag rate in the industry.
“AutoChart AI reduces manual chart abstraction by over 90%, providing significant ROI through operational efficiencies and prospective attribution.”
