Nemours Children’s Health has announced its plans to invest $300m in Central Florida over the coming four years, as part of its commitment to meet growing needs of paediatric health.
The investment will be used to build three new buildings on the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida campus, to provide optimal health to children in Delaware, Florida and beyond.
It includes a 110,000ft2 expansion of the paediatric hospital and a new 75,000ft2 facility with an expanded surgery centre with six new operating rooms and new patient exam rooms.
The hospital expansion will double the size of its Emergency Department, enhance space for the Imaging Department and add new inpatient beds and observation rooms, said Nemours.
The new patient care centre will comprise an orthopaedics division, with a new International Centre for Limb Lengthening, and a Gait and Motion Analysis Lab.
Planned to be completed in 2028, the project is expected to expand Nemours’ Sports Medicine programme and outpatient rehabilitation services.
The expansion also includes a new 75,000ft2 administrative building, which constitutes a new 800-space parking garage, scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Nemours Children Central Florida region president Martha McGill said: “While Nemours has offered world-class pediatric healthcare services to children in the Delaware Valley for years, this significantly deepens our commitment to Central Florida, strengthening our position as the state’s leading children’s healthcare system.
“This investment is designed to care for more children, many of whom require highly complex care. It also directly aligns with our broader mission to reimagine children’s health to keep them well beyond medicine.”
According to Nemours, Florida is the fastest-growing state in the country and faces an increased need for paediatric services.
Currently, the hospital network serves more than 300,000 children and teens in the state.
Nemours said that its Orlando expansion will support both immediate capacity needs and future growth to meet the needs of patients and families.
Furthermore, it has more than 50 locations in the state and employs Florida’s largest and most well-distributed team of paediatric specialists, said Nemours.
Nemours Children’s Health president and CEO Lawrence Moss said: “Our journey to become a nationally ranked children’s hospital here will give us the capacity to support even more families regionally, nationally and internationally.”
“The health of any community starts with its children, and we intend to play a leading role in creating the healthiest generations of Americans through our multistate paediatric health system.
“We’re thrilled that through careful stewardship and commitment, we can make these critical investments across our system to set up patients, families and communities for the best possible health outcomes.”
