US-based integrated health system Endeavor Health has partnered with Google Cloud to develop an advanced digital pathology model to enhance diagnostic speed and accuracy.
The new digital pathology model leverages cloud technology to address the limitations of traditional pathology methods, which often rely on physical slides and microscopes.
The cloud-based platform enables healthcare providers to collaborate more effectively with other physicians and enhance patients’ access to healthcare services.
It allows for easy sharing of digital files, facilitating second opinions and enhancing patient involvement in care decisions.
Also, patients can schedule clinical visits with pathologists, view their medical images, and gain a better understanding of their diagnoses.
Google Cloud healthcare and life sciences global director Shweta Maniar said: “Cloud is redefining the field of pathology. By coupling secure, cost-effective storage with advanced AI, we can enable seamless data access, analysis and innovation like never before.
“This collaboration sets the stage for a new era in digital pathology, where technology removes traditional barriers and empowers healthcare providers to deliver faster, more accurate and more accessible diagnostics.”
Endeavor Health’s move represents a significant leap forward in digital pathology, driving a fully connected and patient-centred approach.
The new cloud-based model ensures compatibility and connectivity across healthcare systems, empowering patients with direct access to their pathology images.
By using scalable cloud-based file storage, the system eliminates the need for conversion or specialised equipment, streamlining the storage and sharing process.
Endeavor Health pathologist and digital pathology project lead John Growth said: “To truly transform patient care, digital pathology must move beyond isolated systems that can’t connect to each other and embrace a safe, seamless and personal approach.
“This will allow us to drive transformation and advance diagnostics in ways that make a positive impact for patients across our system and deliver the best care now and in the future.
“Pathologists are a critical member of your care team, but you may never meet them during your care journey. Through this shift to digital pathology, patients can uniquely access their images, and more easily connect with pathologists, and better understand their diagnosis.”
