Echolight, an Italian bone densitometry solutions provider, has signed a multi-year agreement with Siemens Healthineers to market its products.
The agreement allows Siemens Healthineers to resell Echolight bone densitometers. This collaboration supports Siemens Healthineers’ Women’s Health solutions.
Echolight’s REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectometry) technology measures bone density and microarchitecture without the radiation of traditional X-rays. It uses a simple ultrasound scan of axial anatomical sites such as the spine and femur.
According to Echolight, this radiation-free approach enables repeated scans for long-term bone health monitoring.
Additionally, REMS technology automatically excludes common artifacts present with other densitometry procedures, ensuring highly reliable diagnostic results.
Echolight’s portable solution measures both bone quantity and quality at the same time.
It evaluates bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar vertebrae (L1-L4) and femoral neck, providing key osteoporosis parameters like BMD (g/cm²), T-scores, and Z-scores.
The system also includes a fragility score through an independent assessment of internal bone structure, assessing fracture risk over the next five years through advanced statistical and spectral analysis of internal bone structure.
Siemens Healthineers will offer the Echos Plus, Echostation, and Echohybrid Plus models.
Echolight USA executive commercial director Thomas McLaughlin said: “Bone health is a serious problem here in the US.
“This agreement provides expanded provider and patient access to REMS technology in the US through ultrasound-based bone density scanning as another option in the effort to diagnose and monitor bone health.
“Echolight is pleased to support Siemens Healthineers in their focus on women’s health and bone disease.”
Echolight, founded in Italy with its headquarters in Lecce, expanded to the US in 2020.
The company now has a sales network of over 40 distributors, serving customers worldwide who use its REMS technology to assess bone health.
In February 2022, Aurora Spine, a spinal implants developer, announced a joint co-marketing agreement with Echolight Medical.
Aurora Spine is developing and manufacturing DEXA-based spinal implants. The two companies have agreed to promote each other’s products as part of the Aurora DEXA Platform, targeting their respective customers and prospects.
