German medical and safety technology company Dräger has secured a five-year contract from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), a part of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

VHA granted the contract under the non-expendable (NX) equipment programme, which aims to simplify procurement and enhance purchasing efficiency for VA facilities.

The agreement includes the provision of surgical lighting and equipment boom systems to enhance operating rooms and other medical facilities.

The systems will be available through VHA’s National Equipment Catalog.

Dräger’s Polaris surgical lighting systems are designed to improve surgical precision, workflow efficiency, and patient safety, and help manage operational costs effectively.

The contract offers a pre-competed acquisition option, reducing administrative burdens and facilitating timely access to essential equipment for participating facilities.

Draeger hospital solutions sales senior vice president Steve Menet said: “This contract reinforces Dräger’s continued collaboration with the Veterans Health Administration.

“It provides a streamlined path for VA medical centers to access our clinically proven solutions, which are backed by dedicated service and support.”

Founded in 1889, Dräger is a medical and safety technology company that operates in more than 190 countries and employs more than 16,000 people worldwide.

Last month, VA completed the deployment of the Federal Electronic Health Record system at nine additional medical facilities, with a total of 13 sites expected to go live by 2026.

Full deployment across all VA medical facilities is anticipated by 2031.

The Federal EHR system enhances data exchange between the VA and the Department of Defence, improving service and convenience for patients of both departments.
