Interlynk has been selected by Germany-based Biotronik to assist the latter in meeting US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-mandated cybersecurity requirements.

California-based Interlynk is a provider of Software Bills of Material (SBOM) products and services to medical device firms and independent software vendors.

Under this arrangement, Interlynk will support Biotronik by delivering SBOM generation, vulnerability reporting, and open-source risk assessment for its products.

These products will help in saving and improving the lives of individuals affected by heart and blood vessel diseases, as well as chronic pain.

The US FDA has recently issued new guidelines highlighting the role of SBOM in safeguarding medical devices from cyber threats.

Interlynk’s SBOM Platform provides Software as a Service (SaaS) to help organisations comply with these guidelines.

The platform also helps meet requirements from the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the White House’s Executive Order 14028 on Cybersecurity.

It allows clients to assess risks associated with third-party software, integrates software build pipelines for automated SBOM generation and automates SBOM collection through the software supply chain.

Additionally, the SBOM helps in monitoring open-source license risks and component health, including risk scores, reputation, maintainability, and country of origin.

Interlynk co-founder and chief technology officer Ritesh Noronha said: “We are pleased and grateful that Biotronik chose Interlynk to support the implementation of their vigorous cybersecurity processes.

“We are confident that our SBOM Platform and suite of related services will meet and exceed Biotronik’s cybersecurity and open-source monitoring needs.”

Furthermore, Interlynk offers an SBOM Program as a Service to assist in developing an SBOM programme and help in deploying SBOM to meet third-party risk evaluation requirements.

The firm’s SBOM products and services support medical device manufacturers in fulfilling cybersecurity and open-source monitoring standards.

It also helps independent software vendors secure their software supply chains and meet specific SBOM requirements from their customers.

Biotronik global product cybersecurity director Alan Fryer said: “Biotronik’s commitment to excellence and high-quality standards is unwavering. Our choice to partner with Interlynk is a testament to this commitment.

“Interlynk’s robust tools enable us to manage SBOMs effectively and expedite the discovery and management of potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.”
