BIOQuébec has signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maryland Tech Council (MTC) to advance the life sciences sectors in Québec, Canada and Maryland, US.

Through the sharing of opportunities and information, the partnership aims to foster mutual benefits and bolster biopharma and biotech industries in the two regions.

BIOQuébec is a Canadian non-profit association, while Maryland Tech Council is a collaborative community.

Previously, both entities signed an agreement in 2020 and renewed it in 2023 to jointly promote trade and innovation, especially in the life sciences and public health areas.

The newly established MoU establishes a collaborative framework enabling members from both organisations to access resources and participate in global markets.

In addition, the employees from both entities will be able to take part in exclusive events that are designed to promote innovation and growth in the life sciences sector. These could include trade missions, pitch competitions, and conferences that are conducted bilaterally.

BIOQuébec CEO Benoit Larose said: “We are pleased to partner with the Maryland Tech Council through this memorandum of understanding.

“This collaboration not only provides our respective members with valuable opportunities to connect but also ensures mutual benefits, enriching the biotech sectors in both Québec and Maryland through shared knowledge and initiatives.

“It is a practical step to expand our reach and impact, strengthening our industries on an international scale.”

BIOQuébec represents more than 190 firms and organisations within Quebec’s life sciences sector, with a focus on biopharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

The activities of the members cover discovery of drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tools, along with their development, manufacturing, and marketing.

Maryland Tech Council, on the other hand, is engaged in strengthening technology and life science sectors by supporting its members.

Maryland Tech Council CEO Kelly Schulz said: “This exciting collaboration with BIOQuébec will leverage the unique strengths of our organisations to foster knowledge exchange and connect our members to new markets.

“We are delighted to work with BIOQuébec to advance the frontiers of life sciences through shared expertise and innovation.”
