India-based cancer care network Apollo Cancer Centres (ACC) and US-based medical device company Accuray have launched the Robotic and Stereotactic Radiosurgery programme.
The initiative will establish the first robotic and stereotactic therapy education centre in the Indian subcontinent, at ACC locations in Chennai and Bangalore.
It aims to provide radiation oncologists, physicists, radiation therapists, and technologists from India and across the sub-continent, with advanced radiosurgery educational training.
Also, it allows participants to engage in in-depth discussions and demonstrations, to provide an effective and practical learning experience.
Apollo Hospital Enterprises International and oncology group president Dinesh Madhavan said: “In the field of cancer care ground-breaking technologies pave the way for highly personalised and effective treatment.
“The inception of the Robotic Stereotactic Radiotherapy Programme by Apollo Cancer Centres and Accuray will advance training facilities for the ASEAN region.”
Under the partnership, Accuray will provide its CyberKnife System for the initiative.
CyberKnife System is a non-invasive, robotic radiation therapy device designed to treat tumours with high precision and minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
It leverages advanced imaging and computerised robotics technology to provide highly focused beams of radiation to treat complex and hard-to-reach tumours.
The initiative will provide oncologists, physicists, and therapists with the critical knowledge and skills required to access the latest features in CyberKnife technology, said Accuray.

Recently, Accuray partnered with TrueNorth Medical Physics to provide radiation oncology departments with third-party support to advance cancer care for more patients.
