German endoscopic and imaging solutions provider KARL STORZ US has partnered with smart healthcare firm Artisight to boost operating room (OR) efficiency.

Under the partnership, KARL STORZ has launched Pathway.AI tool, powered by the Artisight Smart Hospital Platform, in the US.

The tool helps improve OR efficiency by detecting and responding to status changes. Pathway.AI reduces turnover times, automates tasks, and increases data accuracy, streamlining OR operations.

Artisight’s technology uses ambient sensors, microphones, and machine learning algorithms to monitor and analyse OR workflows in real-time.

It automates the capture of operational data, helping healthcare professionals streamline processes, prevent delays, and optimise resource use. This leads to faster OR turnover, enabling hospitals to perform more surgeries and better allocate staff.

KARL STORZ US OR1 technology integration director Connie Padden said: “Artisight’s expertise in healthcare AI is the perfect complement to KARL STORZ’s proven abilities in transforming the surgical suite.

“Bringing the Pathway.AI automation solution to market will allow us both to provide new value to clinicians in the mission-critical OR environment.”

Pathway.AI is customisable and localised to each OR, ensuring accuracy for unique patient needs and different types of procedures.

The artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm enables the system to boost accuracy and combat model drift and bias.

The HIPAA-compliant technology HIPAA-compliant maintains OR sensitivity and incorporates real-time privacy filters to protect patient and clinician data.

Artisight co-founder and CEO Andrew Gostine said: “This partnership between Artisight and KARL STORZ represents a pivotal moment in scaling artificial intelligence in healthcare. Too often, great artificial intelligence capabilities fail to achieve broad clinical adoption.

“By combining Artisight’s AI-driven Smart Hospital Platform with KARL STORZ’s global prowess in operating room technologies, we’re reimagining the entire surgical ecosystem, starting with the delivery of operational efficiencies.

“Our collaboration will empower healthcare providers with real-time insights and automation, allowing them to focus more on patient care and less on clerical tasks.”

The latest development comes after KARL STORZ closed the acquisition of Asensus Surgical in August this year.

In the same month, the German firm collaborated with FUJIFILM Healthcare to offer comprehensive endoscopic solutions for surgeons.
