US-based Intelliguard has partnered with Codonics, a US-based healthcare technology firm, to strengthen patient safety during medication.
Intelliguard offers radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled medication management and data-intelligence solutions.
The collaboration combines Intelliguard’s flagship Mira Care Station with Codonics’ Safe Label System (SLS) for efficient compliant and standardised syringe labelling.
The solution ensures a closed-loop medication process in operating rooms (OR), enhancing patient safety.
Codonics’ medication safety system uses barcode scanning and visual and audible electronic safety checks to ensure clinicians select the correct medication, reducing labelling errors during medication preparation.
By integrating the SLS with the Mira Care Station, clinicians can easily eliminate the three most common OR medication errors, including vial and ampoule swaps, mislabelling, and syringe swaps.
Codonics vice president and general manager Mike Kolberg said: “We designed Safe Label System to help prevent medication errors and adverse drug events during surgeries by reducing the chance for human error.”
“Sharing Intelliguard’s commitment to advancing patient safety, we are dedicated to helping hospitals improve accuracy by ensuring medications are labelled correctly, in alignment with Joint Commission, ASA, and ISMP standards.”
RFID technology supports healthcare, improving patient safety and clinician efficiency.
Intelliguard is said to be the only solution combining advanced RFID technology with a comprehensive medication management ecosystem, providing real-time visibility and data intelligence for enhanced safety and operational efficiency.
Together, Intelliguard and Codonics will help hospitals comply with the ISMP Guidelines for Safe Medication Use in Perioperative and Procedural Settings, addressing gaps in perioperative and procedural medication safety.
Intelliguard chief strategy officer Shane Smith said: “This strategic partnership is in response to listening to the marketplace as well as governing bodies, specifically ISMP guidelines.
“Combining our technology solutions marks a crucial step forward in enhancing patient safety, offering a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive solution. It aligns with Intelliguard’s mission to foster a safety-driven environment for every medication decision.”
Intelliguard provides medication and inventory management systems that track and manage critical medications and inventory. Its RFID-based system ensures patient and hospital safety by safeguarding every medication decision, from supplier to patient.
In July this year, the RFID solutions provider launched its Mira Ecosystem to ensure a safe environment for hospitals and their patients.
