Royal Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular have formed a strategic advocacy partnership to help expedite access to life-saving treatments.

The collaboration aims to improve stroke care, which is vital for saving lives and minimising long-term disabilities.

Both firms, engaged in stroke diagnosis and treatment, will advocate for raising awareness of the health and economic benefits of timely access to stroke care for patients, families, and communities.

Additionally, Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular expanded their partnership with the World Stroke Organization (WSO) by joining the new WSO Advocacy Coalition.

This coalition unites healthcare professionals, patient groups, and policymakers to create coordinated strategies for addressing the global stroke burden.

Together, the companies and WSO are already sharing research, exchanging practices, and advancing the stroke policy agenda.

Philips chief medical officer Carla Goulart Peron said: “Our new partnership with Medtronic Neurovascular and the ongoing collaboration with the World Stroke Organization highlights our shared commitment to transforming stroke care.”

Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular are advocating for a global network of stroke care centres. These centres aim to provide comprehensive care, from early diagnosis to rehabilitation.

Both companies will focus on raising awareness about stroke symptoms and the importance of seeking immediate care.

They also aim to improve access to treatment by increasing the number of stroke-ready hospitals and training healthcare professionals in the latest interventional techniques.

Additionally, they leverage technology and innovation by using advanced imaging and digital health tools to create integrated stroke care systems.

Medtronic Neurovascular medical & government affairs senior director and chief of staff Signe Haughton said: “Stroke care is a race against time, and by joining forces with Philips, we can help accelerate access to life-saving treatments like mechanical thrombectomy.

“Together, we are advocating for necessary investments in stroke care infrastructure to reduce the burden on patients and healthcare systems globally.”

Philips’ partnership with the WSO, established in 2023, has been strengthened through its involvement in the WSO Advocacy Coalition.

By joining the coalition, the Dutch healthcare firm is now part of a global network that works on healthcare policy, raises public awareness, and advocates for increased investment in stroke care infrastructure.

Earlier this month, Philips in partnership with semiconductor solutions provider Omnivision developed a prototype of an in-cabin driver health and well-being monitoring system.
