Lab informatics platform developer Sapio Sciences has partnered with the Ellison Institute of Technology Los Angeles (EIT Los Angeles) to expedite cancer research.

EIT Los Angeles is an interdisciplinary research centre specialising in cancer and global health.

Under the partnership, the institute has deployed Sapio Sciences’ Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to streamline research operations and accelerate scientific discovery.

The deployment will also advance EIT Los Angeles’ research capabilities while optimising laboratory processes.

EIT Los Angeles uses a multifaceted research approach, covering physics, biology, mathematics, and engineering.

This complexity creates challenges in sample management, data tracking, and collaboration.

The deployment of Sapio’s platform has enabled EIT to centralise sample management, enhance data integrity, and boost efficiency in its DNA sequencing and other laboratory workflows.

EIT Los Angeles Information Technology Interim Director Frank Callari said: “The Sapio platform has provided us with the flexibility and scalability needed to handle the diverse and evolving nature of our research projects.

“Sapio’s unified system allows us to streamline our operations, from inventory tracking to collaboration among our multidisciplinary teams, significantly improving our workflow efficiency.”

Since implementing the Sapio platform, EIT Los Angeles has streamlined inventory and sample tracking for compounds, tissues, cell lines, and materials like DNA and antibodies.

The institute has standardised data collection and documentation for key processes, including DNA extraction, sequencing, and tissue processing.

Additionally, collaboration across teams has improved using Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) templates and customisable dashboards.

Furthermore, the research organisation has integrated data from microscopy and drug discovery experiments, enhancing data analysis and reporting capabilities.

Sapio Sciences chief commercial officer Mike McCartney said: “The flexibility of Sapio’s platform, particularly its no-code configuration and API-driven architecture, has allowed EIT Los Angeles to improve and expand its research capabilities continuously.

“As a result, the institute is well-positioned to scale its operations and further its mission of developing transformative solutions in cancer research, healthcare, and beyond.”

Sapio Sciences aims to accelerate discovery by offering simplified technology.

The company offers a platform that includes cloud-based LIMS, ELN, and Jarvis data solutions.

Recently, the biotechnology firm added new immunogenicity bioanalysis features to the LIMS and ELN solutions.

In July last year, NatureMetrics, a nature intelligence technology company, adopted Sapio’s platform to enhance its eDNA surveys and sequencing capabilities.
