Mount Sinai Health System has introduced its Center of Excellence for Gynecologic Cancer to meet the growing treatment requirements.
The new centre, a part of The Tisch Cancer Institute, will provide various services, including advanced gynaecologic cancer screening and diagnosis, treatments, and access to supportive care.
It will be led by co-Directors Stephanie V. Blank, and Dmitriy Zamarin, supported by a team that focuses on diagnosing and treating all types of gynaecologic cancers.
Mount Sinai Health System Gynecologic Oncology director and The Tisch Cancer Institute Women’s Cancers associate director Dr Blank said: “The launch of the Center of Excellence for Gynecologic Cancers represents a crucial step forward in our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our diverse community.
“We want to make sure that cancer patients can live the best life possible. It’s not only about their treatment; we’re talking nutrition, fertility, psychological support, and genetics. And because it’s all in one place, we can make it accessible to more patients.”
The American Cancer Society data show that there were 114,810 new cases of gynaecologic cancers diagnosed in the US last year. The disease also caused around 34,020 deaths.
Mount Sinai’s Center of Excellence will specialise to diagnose and treat cervical cancer, fallopian tube cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer and other cancers arising in the peritoneum or the vulva.
Besides providing treatment services, the centre will also participate in clinical trials that assesses the latest and promising therapies for cancer patients.
Mount Sinai Gynecologic Medical Oncology section head Dr Zamarin said: “This new centre stands at the forefront of gynaecologic cancer care, reflecting our dedication to advancing treatment while also meeting the changing needs of our community.
“By leveraging cutting-edge research and addressing current health trends, we are positioned to offer innovative, effective solutions for gynaecologic cancers with sensitivity to our diverse patient population.
“Our goal is to enhance both the quality of care and the quality of life for our patients, ensuring that our services are both responsive and proactive with respect to emerging challenges in women’s health.”
