Accuray said that Halifax Health in Volusia County, Florida is the first facility in the US to use the Accuray Radixact Radiation Delivery System combined with VitalHold Technology for cancer treatment.
The cancer patients were treated at the Charles L. and Miki N. Grant Cancer Center for Hope medical team using the Accuray Radixact System with VitalHold technology.
The new VitalHold feature will aid in positioning patients and maintaining their position throughout their treatment, improving precision in radiation delivery.
The advanced system, initially cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016, is now available at the Cancer Center for Hope – Port Orange.
Nasdaq-listed Accuray secured FDA clearance for the VitalHold breast package on the Radixact System in August last year.
Halifax Health has enhanced its Radixact System by integrating Accuray’s proprietary ClearRT helical CT imaging and Synchrony real-time adaptive delivery technologies.
The advanced radiotherapy delivery system, coupled with VitalHold, is designed for rapid treatment of a broader spectrum of cancer cases with reduced risk.

The VitalHold feature integrates a fully automated surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT) solution, Catalyst+ HD from C-RAD, with the Radixact System.
SGRT enhances positioning accuracy by using a camera to scan the patient’s body surface and create a real-time 3D image.
Additionally, VitalHold facilitates deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) treatments on the Radixact System.
The SGRT technology within VitalHold helps confirm the patient’s position without the need for permanent markers on the skin.

In June this year, Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany invested in the fourth Radixact System to improve cancer patient care.
