The new South Florida Baptist Hospital, part of the BayCare Health System, has started operating from a new building located at 3202 N. Park Rd. off Interstate 4 in Plant City, Florida.

South Florida Baptist Hospital is an acute care site offering a range of diagnostic, rehabilitative, surgical, therapeutic and women’s services, including obstetrics.

The 424,000ft2 facility takes the place of the original hospital on Alexander Street, which has been operational in Plant City for over 70 years.

South Florida Baptist Hospital has permanently closed the earlier location and shifted the control to the new site which is located four miles from the original site.

The new $326m South Florida Baptist Hospital represents BayCare Health System’s 16th hospital serving West Central Florida.

The hospital offers a range of specialised services, including general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, imaging, cardiac catheterisation, emergency care, and labour and delivery.

Additionally, the 146-bed facility boasts an 85,000ft2 medical arts building that provides space for physician offices and outpatient services.

It includes diagnostic services such as imaging, rehabilitation, and lab work, enabling patients to manage their healthcare needs all in one convenient location.

The shift started with the transfer of 67 patients to the new hospital using ambulances. The operation concluded with the support of IMH health care consultants, community partners in law enforcement, fire and rescue services, transport teams, and BayCare staff members.

South Florida Baptist Hospital president Karen Kerr said: “I am extremely pleased with how the process went today with all patients being safely transported from the legacy hospital to the new hospital.

“We planned for this transition for more than a year and it’s wonderful to see the payoff of all the work that went into this extraordinary task.”

BayCare is a health care system offering a range of services across 16 hospitals, including a children’s hospital, and other locations throughout Tampa Bay and West Central Florida.

The organisation provides behavioural health and paediatric services in the region.
