US-based spine surgery solutions provider Alphatec has unveiled EOS Insight, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered advanced spine surgery platform.
EOS Insight is a cloud-based software platform that uses the precision of EOSedge imaging technology and AI technology.
The company has designed the surgery platform for comprehensive spine care across multiple stages, offering integrated point-of-care applications.
The data generated through these applications drives advancements toward more predictable and effective spine care.
The developer of spine surgery solutions reported the first EOS Insight-informed surgeries by David Schwartz and Craig McMains at OrthoIndy Hospital.
Schwartz said: “My first clinical experience with EOS Insight affirmed that the cutting-edge features ATEC developed can transform surgery.
“Relying on EOS Insight, I entered surgery with an efficient, AI-driven customised plan, precise alignment measurements and rods pre-contoured for the long construct. The technology increased my confidence in the operating room.”
The software platform’s initial features include AI-driven alignment calculation, 3D-surgical planning simulations based on informed insights, patient-specific rods, intra-operative reconciliation, and analytics for post-operative patients and practice.
The alignment assessment quickly identifies spinal levels, calculates measurements, and parameters, and benchmarks patients using colours against normative values after each EOSedge exam.
EOS Insight uses an EOS-enabled 3D model of the patient’s spine for precise surgical correction with ATEC interbodies.
It also has patient-specific contoured rods that streamline ordering, approval, and delivery of rods for short and long-construct surgeries, enhancing sagittal correction predictability.
Additionally, the spine surgery platform allows real-time full-spine visualisation to measure key coronal and sagittal parameters, comparing them directly to the pre-operative plan.
Its cloud connectivity allows data export for comprehensive analysis across all stages of care.
Furthermore, the system offers a convenient view of quantified longitudinal assessment data to facilitate individual case reviews and deeper practice insights.
Alphatec chairman and CEO Pat Miles said: “The debut of EOS Insight marks a pivotal moment for ATEC.
“Its development harnessed unequivocal spine-focused know-how to integrate informatics into every step of the clinical workflow.
“Unlike the plethora of duplicative “enabling technology” in the spine, Insight modernises surgery, replacing archaic clinical practices to improve patient outcomes.”
